Either Resignation Federal Law Minister Is The Solution?
He was speaking at a press conference alongside PM’s aide Shehzad Akbar and Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood in Islamabad. Rasheed said the prime minister had accepted Naseem’s resignation.
Naseem will represent the government along with Attorney General Anwar Mansoor in the case pertaining to the extension in General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s tenure, PM’s aide on Accountability said.
Earlier in the day, Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa had suspended the government’s notification of the army chief’s tenure extension until the top court’s hearing on Wednesday. He was hearing a petition filed by The Jurists Foundation challenging the extension.
The chief justice had observed that “the summary and approval of army chief’s extension is not correct”.
Education minister Mahmood mentioned that there was no ambiguity regarding the decision of the Army chief’s extension.
The former law minister “will present himself before the court tomorrow with the attorney general and represent the government’s stance on General Bajwa’s extension”, he added.
“The Cabinet lauds Farogh Naseem’s abilities and hard work,” Ahmed said, adding that none of the Cabinet members criticized the former law minister.
The court’s prerequisites have been fulfilled as well, Ahmed noted.
Akbar, the PM’s special assistant, added that Naseem could, however, rejoin the Cabinet after the case concluded and should the premier approve. He added that the minister stepped down from the post as he could not fight Gen Bajwa’s case while holding the law minister’s office.
