What Pak Army react on Pervez Musharraf’s death penalty
In a first in Pakistan’s history, a special court on Tuesday sentenced the former president to death.
The Pakistan army on Tuesday came to its former chief Pervez Musharraf’s support in a treason case in which he was given the death penalty by a special court.
The army expressed its anguish and said that the former general cannot be called a traitor.
I am being victimized, says Musharraf.
“The decision given by the special court about General Pervez Musharraf has been received with a lot of pain and anguish by the rank and file of Pakistan Armed Forces. An ex-army chief, chairman joint chief of staff committee and president of Pakistan, who has served the country for over 40 years, fought wars for the defense of the country can surely never be a traitor,” an army spokesperson said in a tweet.
“The due legal process seems to have been ignored, including constitution of the special court, denial of the fundamental right of self-defense, undertaking individual-specific proceedings and concluding the case in haste,” DG ISPR said.
The Armed Forces of Pakistan expect that justice will be dispensed in line with the constitution of the country, read the statement issued on Tuesday.
